Yisroel Pensack emails:
I today received a fund solicitation letter from the Keren Hachomesh Charitable Foundation of 770 Eastern Parkway, Brooklyn, NY (i.e., Chabad-Lubavitch “world headquarters”), dated January 19, 2007/Erev Rosh Chodesh Shevat, 5767. This letter, with a facsimile signature above the printed name of the signee, Rabbi Yehuda Krinsky, contains this sentence, and I quote: "As a fund which holds deep, personal significance to the Rebbe, the participation in its efforts is indeed a privilege and a priority for each of us."
This sentence, which explicitly refers to the deceased Rebbe in the present tense as though he were still alive (i.e., "holds" not held), is underlined in the original letter. Rabbi Krinsky, often portrayed as a theological moderate and an anti-messianist, is one of the highest executive officers of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement today. The reply envelope lists Machne Israel in the first line of the reply address, above the name of the foundation.
